Anniversaries of Marpa and Milarepa and the Cotton-Clad Procession

March 7, 2023

On the 14th day of this year's Month of Miracles (March 6, 2023) the monastic seat's Vajra Master along with khenpos, tulkus, and lamas who completed the three-year and three-fortnight retreat, performed the guru yoga of Milarepa, the ritual of invoking the activity of the Three Roots, and the daily practice of the Six Yogas of Naropa. During the night, they donned the meditation hats and white cotton robes and chanted the ocean of songs of the Kagyu masters. At 5:30 in the morning they formed the cotton-clad procession. Escorted by monks carrying incense, they circumambulated the main temple while singing songs of experience and realization and planting seeds of devotion in the minds of numerous fortunate beings.

On the 15th day of the Tibetan month, which marked the passing into celestial realms of Lord Marpa Lotsawa, the forefather of the teachings of the Practice Lineage and the king of translators, this anniversary was observed by recollecting his life through the practice of Marpa Guru Yoga, which included a joyful ganachakra feast.
